Pottery and the Process:

The Allen Stoneware Gallery is proud to create such fine works of pottery. The kiln firing process turns the clay to STONE, making each piece of pottery dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe. All Allen Stoneware is lead-free and food safe.

After forming the shape of the clay on the potter's wheel, the pottery then requires two kiln oven firings. When the clay form is leather hard, but not thoroughly dry, the lettering or design is embossed. Then, the first firing is to 1832 degrees F. Next, it is hand painted, glazed, and fired a second time to 2232 degrees F.

  Meet the Owner

"My pottery pieces include plates and platters, vases, bowls, pet urns and ornaments. I enjoy modeling with clay, which allows for my creativity to meet the personal request of the customer. In 1993, the White House requested that I create a sculptured ornamental angel exclusively for the White House Christmas Tree. In 1994, I was commissioned to create a personalized plate for Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge and his family in recognition of his Inauguration.

Whether it is off my potter's wheel, pottery customized for you, or an idea that is yet to be given form, Allen Stoneware Gallery can make a lifetime keepsake for you!"

Each piece of Allen Stoneware is hand-formed, and individually painted and glazed in limited editions. The clay imperfections and glaze impurities add uniqueness and beauty.
